Bold transformations are our specialty at CR&A Custom. So it makes sense that one of our most recent creations is located in Wynwood, a Miami neighborhood that has gone from warehouse hub to colorful art district in the span of a couple of decades. Keep reading to learn more.
Revitalizing a Neglected District
Located in downtown Miami, Wynwood used to be a drab neighborhood dominated by abandoned warehouses — probably the last place that came to mind when Miamians thought of fun or art.
Things began to change in the early 1990s, when the Rubell family, owners of one of the world’s largest collections of contemporary art, moved their collection from New York to a repurposed warehouse in Wynwood.
The presence of these prestigious residents revitalized the once-neglected district and turned it into a celebration of all things creative.
With its many restaurants and its love for stunning, playful graphics, Wynwood is the vibrant center of Miami’s art scene.
According to some people, it has even dethroned South Beach as the hub for nightlife in the Magic City. Not bad for a place that began as an aggregate of factories and warehouses.
About Our Project
Thanks to its unexpected evolution, Wynwood is now synonymous with imaginative visual creations that blur the boundaries between conventional and urban art.
Living up to these standards is a tall order. But that’s precisely the type of challenge we love to tackle at CR&A Custom.
Our project combines large format printing and fabric architecture to produce a dynamic effect that sits comfortably among the remarkable works that have put Wynwood on the map of contemporary art.
In this partial building wrap, the splotches of bright colors on a gray background offer a powerful contrast against the surrounding cityscape and the vast expanse of Miami’s blue sky.
Elongated triangular prisms protrude from the surface of the graphic at regular intervals, a surprising addition that seems to add a new dimension to the structure of the multi-use building.
The repetition of the modular design creates a sense of rhythm — a fitting tribute to a neighborhood that pulses to its own, lively beat.
