What Is a Window Graphic?
A window graphic, also known as a window decal, is an image printed on a self-adhesive substrate and placed on a panel of glass.
Window graphics are an ideal solution for storefronts and shop windows. However, as more and more modern buildings incorporate glass as a building material, the visual possibilities of window graphics have grown exponentially.
Nowadays it’s not uncommon to see entire buildings where glass is the predominant material, offering a giant canvas to create monumental window graphics.
Why Use Window Graphics for My Business?
There are three good reasons why you should consider using window graphics to promote your products or services:
- High Impact. Window graphics are guaranteed to capture the attention of your audience, raising brand awareness and increasing your sales.
- Affordable. Digital printing technology reduces costs, which makes window graphics a budget-friendly option to advertise your business.
- Fast turnaround times. In addition to containing costs, digital printing also compresses production times. If you are in a rush to bring a visual idea to life, window graphics are one of your best bets.
How to Maintain a Window Graphic?
Giving your window graphics proper maintenance is important for aesthetic reasons, but also because it can extend the life of your graphics.
If your decals are placed outdoors, they come in contact with a variety of harmful agents that may damage them in the long run. That’s why you should clean any stains or splatter as soon as possible.
To clean your window graphics, use a microfiber cloth and a mild solution of soap and water. Make sure to avoid solvents or other corrosive products, as they may damage the graphic.
What Size Does a Window Graphic Need To Be?
From a technical standpoint, there are no limits to the size of window graphics. However, each city has regulations in place for window signs, so make sure to check these requirements on your city’s website before designing your window graphic
For example, according to the Los Angeles Department of Building and Safety, the area of “Any sign attached to, affixed to, leaning against, or within 6 feet of a window or door and visible from the outside of a building” must not exceed 10% of the area of the window.
How Long Does a Window Graphic Last?
There’s no definitive answer to this question because the useful life of a window graphic depends upon several factors such as the weather, location, exposure to the elements, and maintenance.
Can Window Graphics Be Reused?
No, window graphics are one-use only. Keep in mind that window graphics are printed on a self-adhesive substrate (usually vinyl). The adhesive is strong, so very often it’s impossible to remove a window graphic in one piece.
This is especially true of large window graphics, where removal involves scoring the graphic with a sharp tool and then peeling it off in sections.
Finally, window decals can’t be reused because the adhesive on a window graphic loses most of its strength after removal, making it practically impossible to install the graphic again.
